Reception: Thursday, April 19, 5:00-7:00 p.m.
Spencer Presentation Gallery
Alun Williams was born in Manchester, England. He has exhibited his work extensively overseas in France and London, as well as throughout the U.S. and Canada. The work in this solo exhibit Distinguishing Marks is a reinvention of history painting, inspired by historical characters as its subject, and by the history of painting as its vehicle. With considerable humor, the artist calls upon Raphael, Goya, Ingres, Picasso, Miro, Magritte, etc., linking his appropriation of accidental paint-marks found in the street, with representations of historical characters gathered from the history of painting. |
